About the Exhibits About Us Funding The Archive

Voices of the Colorado Plateau is an online museum exhibit that features first person oral history accounts of life on the Colorado Plateau. Resources for the exhibits are provided by eight partnering institutions that have collaborated on this unique on-line museum site. Many of the exhibits include historical images that illustrate the stories shared by the interviewees. Oral history is a powerful and personal historical resource that is often overlooked in library and archive collections. We hope these exhibits will help patrons gain a greater appreciation for oral history, the people of the West and the history of this exciting region of the United States.

Presentations within the exhibit are organized under People, Places or Topics and may be accessed by following the links on the right side of the exhibit window. After selecting one of these three headings choose a subheading from the list (People or Topics) or a location from the map (Places). Individual presentations will then be listed by title at the bottom of the subheadings page.

At the completion of each story you will have an opportunity to review the full images used in the presentation and to read a short informative essay that places the story in its historical context. You may link to the exhibit's archive at any time to hear the complete interview from which the exhibits were taken or to read the accompanying transcription.
